The Ten new beauty trend tips for SS13

The start of a new season is always fun! It's a time to work with new trends and textures, new shapes and colors and break those make-up habits for good! So here are the new trends in make-up for SS13 according to MAC cosmetics......

The Power Brow

The big and bold and beautiful! If your not into shaping your brows then you need to start! Thankfully over recent years we have seen an end to the pencil thin overplucked look which reigned supreme in the 90s and 00s, and have moved on to a more natural look. It might look natural, but there is WORK gone into creating that!

Key Investment pieces? Get an eyebrow pencil that matches (or is a little darker then your normal brow), a browset gel from MAC is a great investment as it holds the hairs in place (kinda like hairspray for brows!) and an eyeshadow. The eyeshadow can be used to fill in and shape the brow - just make sure it is the same shade as the brow!

The Nude Nail

I am going to struggle with this one!!! I think this might be a bit of a backlash from all the nail art of 2012. We seriously overloaded on glitter, sparkle, crackle and all things diamond this year and this is the anti-art nail! This is about keeping the nail as nude and as basic as possible. Basic but healthy!

Key Investment Pieces? Get yourself to Nails Inc! They do great manicure kits. If you can't budget NI then head to Boots and pick up some Barry M - affordable and great quality.

The Glow

This summer is all about the tan. However its not fake tan but bronzer! Bronzer is one of those things that I wouldn't be too upset if I didn't have it in my make-up bag but sometimes I pop it on. I am so pale that I think it is really obvious when I have some on so I tend to stick to really really light bronzers if I can find them.

Key Investment Pieces? Get something really natural and with a bit of shimmer in it to get a real glow. MAC do  a great selection of bronzers but why not try - Give me Sun

The Anti Smokey Eye

Annoyingly, someone once told women that the smokey eye is the only thing you can do with your eyes. This meant that there are a wave of women who ask for nothing more then just smokey eyes ALL OF THE TIME. This year, the SE is going a bit 90s and getting lighter and less chalky. It's going to give you some smoke and some drama without overloading the eye.

Key Investment Pieces? Get yourself your favourite eyeshadows in a few shades lighter. The trick with this is to lighten it up a bit. If this year was the year of the dark (think wine lipstick) then this is the year of a more natural and lighter look.

Super Glow

This summer is also about super dewy, fresh, highlighted skin. This look isn't created by using powder highlighters or even cream highlighters but about using something super light and moisturising to get the effect. This is about natural and fresh - powders can be a little heavy and creams a little too heavy. A moisturiser is just right!

Key Investment Pieces? I would get a dewy foundation (dewy means it has light reflecting particles) such as the one that Rimmel make-up do, a bottle of Strobe Cream from MAC that you can mix with the foundation and under it to create a glow, Mineralize skinfinish powders - just pop powder on T zones alone AND if you have to use moisturiser then keep it to something like a gel. Oh and a BB cream would work wonders instead of foundation actually!

The Mean Blues

Blue will be popping up everywhere this season! I do love a bit of blue liner as it makes such a difference from the plain old black liner. This is about electric though so keep it shocking  kids!

Key Investment Pieces? Invest in a good bright liner like Chromagraphic pencils from MAC or waterproof liners from Make-up Forever. Waterproof is great as its sweat and swimming proof!  You can pop a shocking blue shadow over the top to set it as well. Go matte for your eyeshadow finish and again, Barry M at Boots are a great brand to check out for matte pigments. Gosh Cosmetics also do a strong Cyan shade as welll.

Emerald Nails

Emerald is THE color for next season. Tangerine was apparently the color fo 2012 and emerald is 2013.

Key Investments? MAC (see above) and Barry M again! I'm also sure you could get a great shade from Ciate and Nail Inc.

Metal

If you are not one for the smokey eye  -90s style - then why not try a metal shadow? This look was massive at Chloe and is basically a bronze metallic shadow across the lid with a little bit of a browner shadow at the edges.

Key Investments - Invest in a good creamy metallic as it will pop more and have a stronger metallic feel to it. The paint pots from MAC are fantastic for this - check out Indianwood - also Rimmel used to do great metallic creams but I'm not sure if they still do.

Matte lips

Keep the color popping on the lips but make sure the texture is matte. This is one I cannot wait for! I hate wearing glossy lipstick or lipgloss in general. I need to have a good strong matte lipstick. You can always matte down a lipstick by adding a bit of powder over the top in the same shade or translucent for a good finish.

Key Investment Pieces? Get one good strong color - I might suggest Pink as it was all over the catwalks - and stick to it. Try something totally different this summer. A good pink lippy can be used a cheek blusher as well! MAC are kings of the matte lippy, also the Kate Moss range for Rimmel are quite good AND M Store do some good shades too. If your feeling flush then Tom Ford has AMAZING lipsticks and also - GET.A.LIP.LINER.

Pink eye

This is one awkward trend. Get it right and you look really really on trend - get it wrong and you look AWFUL. I would suggest using a pencil or a shadow to pop a bit of pink in and building it up gently over time. I would also suggest balancing it with a bit of black because sometimes catwalk looks don't work on Grafton Street at 3pm! A nice black lash would really reign this in a bit!

Key Investment Pieces? A nice pink shadow - Barry M pigments are great for this as they are inexpensive if you decide that you don't like the finished effect! Nothing worse then ditching expensive make-up!!!

So there you go! Not sure I am going to be doing the pink eye but I will definately be trying the cyan eyeliner and the 90s smokey eye. That is my beauty resolution! I will try  the new trend for less is more! Gulp......
