Let me begin by saying how much I'm enjoying the dry air out here! We started our morning by taking in the Salt Lake City farmers market which was highly enjoyable. We also saw lots of alternative looking folks there. We sampled some local treats and then concluded our visit by enjoying some morning buns in the grass. Yes, that same grass where we saw people sleeping last night. After one last walk by the Gateway, we checked out of the Hyatt Place and made our way to the wedding factory temple. And what a sight it was! We saw Beehive house, home to none other than Utah's first territorial governor and the great leader of Mormonism, Brigham Young. Next door to his house was Lion House, where BY's wives and children lived. I felt a little pang when I read about his childless wives. Sure, we all play an important role in a polygamist family, but you have to wonder if they were less popular. They probably had better figures, though. We saw 8 wedding parties outside of the temple! (including an expectant bride....her family must have connections with the powers that be). In the visitor's center, we saw lots of people in modest outfits with "Sister" name tags. Here's the question of the day: What names would we use if we were Mormon tour guides? Sister Allison, Sister Al, Sister AllieK? or Sister Kitten, Sister Kay, or Sister Kathryn? Personally, I think I'm going to go with Sister Kay to be a bit less formal.
We checked into the Hilton and got freshened up for the concert. I put on my play clothes and we called up for some extra towels a beach blanket before we took off for the show. We got there around 4 and the doors opened at 6. Let me tell you, even though it was very sunny, it's a good thing we got there when we did, because things sure filled up fast. Seated next to us was a "boisterous" woman named D*ondra. She's 43, a fan of Rockstar energy drink, has two teenage children and frequently Googles herself, hence my asterisk usage. She's also not very familiar with Brandi. What a loud son of a gun! You really have to stand your ground in that kind of situation which has never been my strong point--thankfully AllieK was ready to hit the ground running when the gates opened up at 6. Did I mention that D*ondra settled right behind us? Oh, you're curious about her name? Well, her mom's name is Donna and her aunt is Sandra. Her other aunt is Delores so if Donna had gone with a different combination, D*ondra could have been Delonda! To what could have been...
The Secret Sisters played first and were pleasant once again, but Brandi and the band really stole the show. They really brought their A game and the crowd was incredibly enthusiastic. Fist pumping was the evening's go-to move. Beer was only $5 which was a wonderful boon, however with such a boon comes frequent potty breaks. The porto-potty situation went downhill as the sun went down. I went in one and I promptly cleaned up the seat...with my bottom! Come on, people!
Just as in Boston, the crowd really went insane for Ray and we were crowded in by people in tight jeans and Toms shoes. It was interesting, though, in a way as sitting amongst all of those standing people allowed me to contemplate all of the different types of rears in this world. Slow dancing was out of control! We get it, couples, you're in love! In my world, affection should only be shown behind closed doors. Perhaps I'm like Brigham Young in that way.
